Smart Power Routing (Local vs. Cloud/API toggle)
The Problem:Running any local model (even "Standard") consumes a massive amount of power. When I check my power monitor on battery, Superwhisper is consistently drawing huge amounts of energy, second only to Chrome. It makes using the app on the go very taxing on the MacBook’s battery. The Proposed Solution:A "Power-Aware" toggle that automatically switches the transcription engine based on the MacBook's power state. When Plugged In (Optimize for Cost): The app defaults to the Local Model. This keeps data on-device and saves API costs/cloud limits since the Mac has infinite power. When Unplugged (Optimize for Battery): The app automatically switches to off-device cloud processing to save the Mac's battery. For Free Tier users: It routes through their Personal API Key.For Pro Tier users: It routes through either Personal API or Superwhisper Cloud. The Value:By offloading the heavy computation to the cloud when unplugged, users can preserve their battery life. When back at a desk, it switches back to local to save API costs. It’s a perfect balance of cost-efficiency and power management. Thanks for considering this and for the great work on the app!
