Huge +1. As a potential quick fix - can we just have a microphone selector on the recording modal? This would fix nearly all the friction here.
Same issue here. I use a hardware mic and want Superwhisper to always default to that mic. Between docking, undocking, restarts and audio changes my system tends to default to a different mic at the Mac system level. I end up going into the Superwhisper preferences multiple times per day to get it back to my hardware mic.
Hey Brandon, have you tried the "automatically use system default" option?

Neil Chudleigh: I have and mentioned that above but perhaps that didn't make sense. When I dock my Mac into my full workstation, the microphone default doesn't change to my USB mic at the system level. So essentially the same problem exists. I have to manually change it, either at the system level or within the application level. Either way, my request is for an automatic way to detect if a microphone is attached as your preference and to always use that one.
Brandon: Would having the selection available in the menu bar dropdown be an improvement?

Neil Chudleigh: this would be an incredible improvement, you have to dig pretty deep in the settings to change your microphone input, which for a audio input app, would be a great addition. I also feel like this is pretty important information to have displayed on the model that appears when you’re recording. Thanks!

Related and I think covers a bit more use cases: https://superwhisper.userjot.com/board/p/microphone-priority… Yes, Superwhisper needs a way to override the frequently-bizarre source choices macOS wants to make.
