Same here, I would love to be able to setup a shortcut on my custom mode to toggle recording directly when pressing this specific shortcut. I currently defined that this mode activates when the focused windows is my terminal but sometimes even in the terminal I would like to just use the default mode. Having specific shortcut to toggle each mode recording would be incredibly useful !
I use two modes heavily throughout the day, and would love a hotkey to control which one activates! It would also be nice if I could set one of them to be push-to-talk-release-to-end, and the other one to push-to-talk-push-to-end. In general, any customizability in this regard would be incredible
Among competitors, your killer feature is different modes, so separate hotkeys for them are extremely necessary.
**Strong +1 for this feature request.** My expertise are in neuroscience of UX (working on safety-critical systems including semi-autonomous vehicles), I'd like to highlight why this is particularly important for SuperWhisper. The current mode-switching interaction is either a multiple long winded shortcut combination OR **state-based** — the same keyboard shortcut produces different results depending on which mode you're currently in. This requires conscious cognitive effort (cerebrum) which interrupts your chain of thought which you were hoping to voice. In contrast, **dedicated keyboard shortcuts for each mode** would leverage muscle memory (cerebellum) — a primitive, automatic process that doesn't interrupt your chain of thought and can execute in parallel with conscious thinking. This distinction is especially critical for SuperWhisper, since your product works directly with users' thought processes as they speak and interact with AI. Minimizing cognitive friction during mode switching would significantly enhance the flow state your users are trying to maintain. This can also open the product pathway to agentic abilities of Super Whisper which I would strongly back as I would love a keyboard shortcut where I could ask it to carry out a task.
For your product manager. I'm using the free version now. As for simple dictation the on device is sufficient. If there was a dedicated shortcut to use the A.I. mode I had set up where I describe to the A.I. the text I want to produce, I would pay for it. As an example, until you release this on Windows I had been using Wispr Flow which was criminally expensive at 15 pounds per month and it used the same model which I could run using a free open source version with my work api key. It had a bad keyboard shortcut! (I won't go into detail here) It messed with my flow so much that I was paying 15 pounds a month just for a keyboard shortcut that worked well, that was the only difference. I know this sounds crazy but I am a bit older in my forties and have a very high stress busy job and havn't the spare mental engergy for the faff that youth can tolerate. I just need it to work. This direction has hurt the feelings of a number of my reports over the years, this type of product is one of those where it's best incarnation is one where the user, is almost oblivious to it, and never has to engage with it mentally. It's operated entirely by their subconscious (like a door handle). This is a sad thing to accept for your ex-designer. Because you want your users to be deeply engaged in their beautiful UI and cool features. But the best job you could do is to make it effortless to use. Which is to say, bypass the cerebrum.
Agreed. I would also add that having multiple shortcuts for the same thing for those of us with large F-key keyboards at work and using regular laptop keyboards at home would be super beneficial.
It would be really nice to use a keyboard shortcut to go into a mode directly so that I can do push to talk for one mode and then another key to do push to talk for another mode and not have to worry about cycling in between modes at all.
This please!
I'd like to see this implemented similarly to Chrome tabs, where once you're in dictation mode, hitting Command one, two, or three, respectively, will switch between your various modes versus having to go into the switcher mode and then hitting Command one, two, and three to make the selection. I think that this would streamline the process and make it one single keyboard shortcut.
+1 It'd be super helpful
Yes please!
Yes, this is what I need!!
At this moment, there are only nine shortcuts. Since we work with Stream Deck, it should be possible to use more shortcuts, allowing us to use more buttons for selecting a mode.
I 100% concur with this request. It's such a huge need to just have push to talk that actually works right. The other thing with push to talk is for the most part if I want to do push to talk, then I should just be able to like pick a certain Submit key -- I am most of the time just submitting into a slack box or Cursor so I want it to hit enter
Same request as this one from 2024 by the way: https://superwhisper.userjot.com/board/p/custom-keyboard-sho…
Yes this would be very helpful! I use a Stream Deck for SuperWhisper and would like to select a specific mode by pressing a single button instead of toggling through a menu each time.
